208 - From Spreadsheets to Graph Paper

  • If Dilbert became a tv show I feel like I'm living it. Of course all characters described here-in are fictitious not based on any real people. Any resemblances are purely coincidence. I have a coworker that is looking at a spreadsheet. It's too confusing because of all the lines. Let me reiterate, it's a spreadsheet. I remove the grid, leaving only the lines that are pertinent. That's too confusing. Shows me a spreadsheet he likes. It has the grid in place. Comments multiple times it's confusing, I ask questions to determine what is confusing and the coworker can't explain it, other than all the lines. I make a couple suggestions, knowing one of them would help but this coworker is lost in the confusing grid lines of an excel sheet. It's just bonkers to me. Multiple times the coworker asked me if it confused me. No, I made the thing.

  • Halloween 2019
  • Nostalgia.  Rewatching the same tv show, rereading the same books. I find it hard to rewatch because there is so much new out there. Though some content needs to be consumed twice, and sometimes so much time has passed since the first time I may have a new outlook.
  • A couple had $120k mistakenly deposited to their account. They went on a spending spree: an suv, two 4 wheelers, a car trailer, and giving out 15k to friends.

204 - Come to Raleigh Baseball

  • A major league baseball team in Raleigh, NC?
  • The Raleigh baseball group just released twelve potential teams and logos. There are some neat logos, but they look like minor league logos as some are a bit wild.
  • I've decided to come up with my own team name/logo.
  • Atlanta Braves up 9.5 games on the Nationals.
  • Atlanta is on a crazy hot streak.
  • Why is the best hitter on the Braves, Freddie Freeman, not leading the team in WAR?

  • Have you ever been to someone else's shop, and did it make you want to redo yours?
  • What's the difference between stupid and ignorant?
  • How people that work in an office make it through the day without listening to podcasts.
  • How observant are you? How observant am I? Two years ago I cleaned out my desk at work. There is no personally identifying images, no pictures. No personal items other than a water bottle. If I had to leave my job, all I'd need to pick up are two charging cords and a water bottle. No one seemed to notice. Would I notice if a coworker did the same? I'm pretty sure I would.

196 - Don't Be a Lonnie

  • Welcome to... Fridays on the Fly
  • The nature of video streaming
  • Project #WhatTheDeck2019 in full swing.
  • Don't be a Lonnie is my new catchphrase in place of don't be a dummy.
  • I met Lonnie to sell S10 fender flares. The ad in the title said S10, Chevrolet, GMC, the description again restated that.
  • I pulled in and it was a couple of minutes before he got out. I assumed he was counting his money, no, he was messaging me to tell me he was there even though I got out of my vehicle as soon as he pulled up, which he knew the color, and decided to message me.
  • DON'T BE A LONNIE!
  • So the story gets stranger. The guy I was supposed to meet messages me and asks why I didn't show. Two things, Lonnie was driving a blue Toyota as the guy I was supposed to meet said he was and Lonnie pulled up right beside me. That would explain why Lonnie didn't want the flares.
  • The guy I was supposed to meet is adamant that wasn't him. What are the odds? I figure he's thinking I'm making up a story for not showing, but I've got details. While the guy says he was there at 6pm, I didn't see him. How he didn't see me, I don't know.
  • Eric sold the Colorado to a man living in a Ford Escape.
  • Go karts are fun!

195 - Job vs Career vs Ambition vs Complacency

  • Career vs job.
  • Even the job hunt out of school, I wish i had known more, gotten started earlier.
  • I've considered self starting.
  • I've hit the ceiling at my job. Moving up would mean a lot more time at work without what I consider fair compensation. I'd get more money but less per hour.
  • Cheating- long term it's a losing situation. I've been selling stuff and i ensure my ads are accurate and describe any problems.
  • i suppose i consider cheating generally in regards to tests or homework.
  • is there really a lot of opportunity to cheat? i suppose there is theft. i work at an office. i've never taken office supplies. the rare times i print something for personal use, i pay for it. the people in admin were baffled when i asked about that.
  • i cheated in high school on the psats, i had already taken the sat and it was a pointless test. i cheated by working on whatever section i wanted.
  • in college i was temped to cheat, even wanted to, but didn't. it was a test for which i was ill prepared.
  • my school had an honor system, i actually got to be a juror for that. i can't recall if that's the correct term. a student cheated, admitted it. and at the time neither she nor the professor attended or were employed by teh school. she admitted she did and i guess she was expelled, but she wasn't attending. maybe it was she coudln't return.
  • i downloaded a lot of movies in the early O's. i do regret that. but it's also a strange juxtaposition because you can find movie to stream for free now, legally .it's prevalent. i could make an excuse that i was ahead of my time, but there's no excuse.

192 - Economics

  • What is this podcast?
  • Chernobyl
  • I'm fascinated by economics.
  • Companies have to hire at a premium when unemployment is low, can hire cheaper when unemployment is high.
  • This is why companies don't want employees discussing pay, one of the reasons.
  • From a business standpoint, they are trying to minimize cost.
  • From the employee standpoint it seems unfair.
  • Branching slightly, I'm selling stuff. I think I've gotten a good price, the buyer thinks they have a steal. I have no remorse over that. I could have gotten more money, maybe. But I set my price and got it. A lot of people just want to win.
  • I might could sell a hunk of junk for $20 instead of $5 but I don't want it taking up my space for the three months when I could sell it in a few days.

  • The state utility commission approved for Duke to not only charge customers the full cost to pay for clean up, but to even make a profit.
  • The North Carolina Attorney General is appealing to the Supreme Court.
  • Duke believes the commission's ruling is fair, but fair for whom? I didn't dump coal ash into the river.

  • The item was not gluten free. The restaurant comped her meal, but they should have. They didn't comp my meal, they didn't go above and beyond.
  • To maximize their return, should they have comped our entire meal?
  • Also, my run in with Enterprise Rent a Car where they DID go above and beyond.
